Emergencies

An urgent call comes in.It doesn't wait for your next break.

Voko identifies an urgent situation, points a life-threatening emergency to 144, and transfers other cases to a number you choose, based on the condition you've set.

How it works

Three steps, in an emergency

The same mechanism tells a life-threatening emergency apart from an urgent case, and reacts to each differently.

  1. You define what counts as urgent

You give the assistant a transfer number and the condition that triggers it: a leak, a breakdown, a blocked entrance.

  2. Voko assesses and acts

For a life-threatening emergency, the assistant points to 144 without delay. For an urgent case you've defined, it transfers the call.

  3. You get the summary

Every emergency handled, transferred or not, reaches you in writing: who called, why, what was done.

What it will never do

These rules cannot be switched off

They are part of the base every Voko assistant is built on, on every urgent call.

144 always takes priority

Faced with a situation that puts a life at risk, the assistant points to emergency services, even if a transfer is configured.

No transfer without a defined condition

Without a clear condition, the assistant does not transfer. A standing transfer would just make the phone ring again, the exact thing you were trying to stop answering.

No premium-rate destination

A premium-rate destination number is refused at setup, not discovered afterwards on a bill.

It says it is an automated assistant

If a caller asks whether they are speaking to a person, the answer is clear and immediate.

Voicemail, and Voko

An emergency that reaches voicemail waits for the next check. That delay is exactly what an emergency cannot afford.

Voicemail

  • The caller hangs up and looks for another solution
  • The emergency waits for the next message check
  • Nobody is alerted until it's too late
  • No distinction between a routine message and an emergency

Voko

  • A life-threatening emergency is routed to 144 immediately
  • An urgent case you've defined is transferred right away
  • The right person is alerted within seconds
  • A summary confirms afterwards what was done
Questions

What people ask about handling emergencies

The questions that come up most often before signing up.

How does the assistant recognise a life-threatening emergency?

This rule is part of the base every assistant is built on and doesn't depend on any setting: a situation that puts a life at risk is pointed to 144.

Who decides what counts as urgent for my business?

You do. You set the transfer number and the condition that triggers it, based on what's actually urgent in your line of work.

What happens if the transferred person doesn't answer?

The call then stays with Voko, which notes the request and sends you a summary, same as any other unanswered call.

Does a transfer cost more than a normal call?

Yes, a transfer dials a second outbound call. That's why it only triggers on a specific condition, never by default.

Can you test the transfer before going live?

Transfer relies on real telephony and can't be demonstrated with a test call in the browser. A real call to your Voko number confirms it.

Set up your first transfer.

Two minutes is enough to define the number and the condition that matter to you.
